Are candles safe?

Yes, when cared for correctly candles are completely safe. Some important safety tips to remember are:

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended. Extinguish all flames before leaving a room or going to sleep.

  • Do not place a burning candle within 2 feet of clothing, books, curtains, or anything flammable.

  • Keep lit candles away from drafts, open windows, or ceiling fans.

  • Always place your candle on a sturdy, heat resistant surface.

  • Place burning candles at-least 15cm apart from each other.

  • Our candles should never be lit for more than 4 hours at a time.

  • Never burn a candle if the container or vessel is cracked, chipped, scratched, or damaged.

  • Always keep candles away from pets and children.

  • Never burn a candle all the way down the jar. Discontinue use when the wax has approximately 1 cm remaining.

More candle tips:

  • Your first burn is the most important: When first lighting your candle, allow the melting wax to pool all the way to the rim of the jar. This prevents tunnelling and promotes an even burn and extends the life of your candle.

  • Where possible, use a candle snuffer to extinguish your candle flame.

  • Keep your wick trimmed! Occasionally, coconut soy wax candles can produce excess carbon which causes a mushroom shape to form at the tip of the wick. To prevent this, ensure your wick is trimmed to approximately 1cm before each burn, and never burn for more than 4 hours at a time.

  • If your candle jar begins to blacken around the edge, carefully allow the wax to set completely and wipe off with dry paper towel.
